Design Tips For Holographic Stickers And Labels

Creating a high-quality design for your stickers can be intimidating. But it does not have to be.
Here are our top tips on how to create holographic stickers.
If you do not want to read, watch our step-by-step guide below.
Embrace white space and let the material shine
White space, also often referred to as negative space, is not necessarily white.
It is a graphic design term that refers to the empty or free space between your design elements.
This might sound counter-intuitive - why would you pay for a sticker or label only to leave half of it blank?
Well, white space can actually make your design much more effective.
In fact, when you are creating artwork for a holographic sticker or label, white space is your friend. White space allows you to show off the amazing material you selected for your stickers and labels and can immediately make your branding look more premium.
On top of that, white space lets your design breathe and gives the eye something to rest on, making it easier for viewers to appreciate and understand what they are looking at.
It also helps create contrast between elements in the design so that no one part takes over the whole composition.
Here is an amazing example for the use of white space:
Create a partial holographic sticker or label with white ink
White ink is absolute magic when working with effect materials. No matter if you want to print holographic product labels or create your own holographic anime stickers.
White ink helps you control where and how the holographic effect will display in your design. There are two options:
- print colour directly onto the material which will create a metallic effect for that colour or
- print white ink underneath your colour to dilute the holographic effect and let your colour appear vibrantly opaque
The image below shows the difference between the two options:
If you want to create a partially holographic sticker or label, the second option is for you.
You can either create these white layers yourself in your design tool of choice or you can let us know which parts of your design you'd like to have white ink printed behind.
Simply leave a comment with your order summary such as "Can the border please have white ink behind it" or "I want all blue parts to print opaque".
Opt for bold fonts and colours for optimum legibility
The holographic material is an absolute show-stealer - and we love it for that. But it is something to keep in mind when you are creating artwork.
To promote your product or get your message across in the best possible way, opt for bold fonts and colours such as white or black that block out most of the holographic effect. This will ensure that your message stands out clearly and does not get lost in the design.
It also increases legibility for your customers or target groups, making sure that they can easily understand what you are trying to communicate.
